Many people are blessed with good health. Others suffer with illness. People that are unwell experience a number of things. Because we have a body, emotions and mind, all of these work together and are affected when one or more is unwell. This is why physical illness can sometimes seem so overwhelming.  In spite of this, the human body is an amazing creation.  In the Bible, the psalmist wrote, "I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well" (Psalms 139:14). Even those in the medical profession cannot explain many things about the body. The body is able to heal itself much easier when we take good care of it. Sometimes we need the aid of prescribed drugs and medicine.

Probably the greatest enemy we face in a time of illness is FEAR and UNCERTAINTY, especially if we are usually healthy. We may wonder what is wrong with us, or how bad it will get. Sometimes there is a matter of trust when it comes to doctors and other holistic medical practitioners. Have they properly diagnosed us and are they giving us the proper dosage and medication? Will someone be there for us if we are unable to care for ourselves? Let’s face it. It is stressful being sick and in pain. We feel weak and vulnerable. It is often at these times we realize our limitations.

But it is in times like this that we can really put our energies into doing a very simple but profound thing -- PRAY and BELIEVE! Some people may view prayer as a sign of weakness, but it really shows that a person recognizes that God is their Source of true strength and power. The Apostle Paul asked God to take away his "thorn in the flesh," but God answered him, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness" (2 Cor. 12:9).

Sometimes God allows us to experience illness in order to get our attention. He longs to have fellowship with us and get to know Him as a loving Heavenly Father and His Son as our own personal Savior. "And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God" (I John 4:14-15).  Jesus understands our weaknesses, for it is He who made us. Even though we may feel alone, we do not have to suffer through things alone, for as His Word says, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5).

Of course, there is always the chance that God will decide to heal a person.  In fact, there are many people who can testify that they have been healed by God.  For, "with God all things are possible" (Matt.19:26).  We build our faith by reading the Word of God (Romans 10:17). To be sure, you will find that God and His Word are the best medicine for all your ailments!

God’s Promises to You

"And I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks. It shall be opened." (Luke 11:9-10)

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33)

"Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." (Psalms 55:22)

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)

"Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body, And refreshment to your bones." (Proverbs 3:7-8)

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand." (John 10:27-28)
